Hrisztalina Hrisztova-Gotthardt received her MA in German at the University of Sofia, Bulgaria, where she worked for two years as a teaching assistant at the Department of German Studies. After moving to Hungary, she attended PhD courses in Applied Linguistics at the University of Pécs. In 2009 she defended her dissertation in the field of computational paremiography.

Hrisztalina Hrisztova-Gotthardt is currently employed as a chief quality officer at the Secretariat «Français, Italiano, Deutsch in der Schweiz» (Bern, Switzerland).

Besides paremiology and paremiography, her research interests include language testing methods and verbal and visual humor. Since 2022, she is co-editor of Proverbium: Yearbook of International Proverb Scholarship.
